1. List what you store
Sort items into daily-use, weekly, seasonal and long-term. Daily items belong at arm height near the door; seasonal items belong overhead.
2. Measure
- Each wall, corner to corner
- Ceiling height and the garage door's travel
- Vehicle length and door-swing clearance
- Outlets, switches, windows and the water heater
3. Pick a job for each surface
- Ceiling: overhead racks for seasonal bins
- Upper walls: wall cabinets or shelves
- Middle walls: slatwall for hooks and baskets
- Floor line: base cabinets and a bench
4. Plan for the climate
In Reno and especially at Tahoe, snow melt and road grit end up on the garage floor. Raised or wall-hung storage makes cleaning easier.
5. Get a layout
A design consult turns this into a measured plan and a written quote.

Frequently asked questions
Should I buy cabinets or racks first?
Plan both together, then install the ceiling racks first, followed by walls and cabinets, so nothing gets in the way.
